It addresses the unique and deadly hazards associated with high-voltage equipment, such as powerful arc flashes, blast injuries, and severe electrical shock, while training personnel on the strict safety isolation and earthing protocols required before performing any maintenance. Additionally, the course covers the classification and management of Hazardous Zones, which are areas on a vessel (like fuel tank rooms or cargo pump spaces) where flammable gases or vapors may be present. It teaches mariners how to select, inspect, and maintain specialized explosion-proof equipment to prevent a single electrical spark from triggering a catastrophic fire or explosion.
