This course introduces students to the principles, construction, and operation of marine steam boilers and steam turbines, systems still widely used in specific vessel types and industrial applications. The module provides a solid foundation in steam generation, energy conversion, and the safe operation of steam systems.
Students will study the design and types of marine boilers, including fire-tube, water-tube, auxiliary, and exhaust-gas boilers. Topics include combustion principles, feedwater treatment, steam drum internals, boiler mounting and fittings, and the control of pressure, temperature, and water level. Emphasis is placed on boiler efficiency, maintenance, and safe operating practices.
