Students learn proper cargo placement with respect to longitudinal stresses, structural limitations, and vessel stability. The course includes pre-loading inspections, cargo hold condition checks, and on-hire/off-hire surveys. Key topics also include loading and discharging procedures, crew and vessel safety, cargo lighting requirements, grain stability calculations, chemical-risk bulk cargoes, and the use of special cargo-handling equipment. Practical skills such as draft surveys and occupational safety practices are emphasized to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient cargo operations.
