Ship Theory

€ 200

Ship Theory 1 provides students with a foundational understanding of how ships are designed, built, classified, and maintained. The course introduces the essential principles of ship construction and explores the interaction between a vessel’s structure, materials, onboard systems, and operational environment.

Students begin with the basics of ship construction and design, learning the fundamental concepts behind ship geometry, structural layout, watertight integrity, and the arrangement of major components. The course also addresses the role of the vessel as a potential environmental hazard, examining pollution risks, regulatory requirements, and environmentally responsible ship operation.

An introduction to materials science and strength equips students with knowledge of the properties of shipbuilding materials, including steel and alloys, and how these materials respond to stress, fatigue, and marine environments. Students also learn the principles of accounting and codification of vessel components, enabling systematic identification, documentation, and maintenance planning.
