Advanced Firefighting

This course provides seafarers with the advanced knowledge and practical skills required to control and manage fire emergencies on board ships in accordance with STCW requirements. It builds upon basic firefighting training and prepares students to assume leadership roles during onboard fire response operations.

The module covers the organization, tactics, and command structure of shipboard firefighting teams, emphasizing communication, coordination, and decision-making under pressure. Students learn to assess fire situations, develop response strategies, and deploy appropriate firefighting methods and equipment.

Training includes advanced techniques for:

  • Fire prevention, detection, and investigation

  • Use of fixed and portable firefighting systems (CO₂, foam, water mist, dry powder, sprinklers)

  • Ventilation control, boundary cooling, and fire containment

  • Handling fires involving machinery spaces, accommodation, cargo areas, and dangerous goods

  • Search and rescue procedures in smoke-filled or restricted areas

  • Command and team leadership during emergency scenarios
