This course provides foundational knowledge of the properties, selection, and safe use of electrical materials in marine installations, in accordance with STCW engineering competencies. Students learn about conductive, insulating, and magnetic materials; their mechanical, thermal, and electrical characteristics; and their suitability for shipboard applications. Training includes corrosion behavior, material aging, thermal effects, and protection methods to ensure reliability and safety of electrical equipment. Emphasis is placed on understanding how material properties influence system performance, maintenance, and long-term operational integrity.
