Master the physical installation, precision termination, splicing methodologies, and diagnostic testing standards required to deploy and maintain high-speed optical telecommunications infrastructure. This course covers the physics of optical transmission (single-mode and multi-mode fiber characteristics, wavelength propagation, and attenuation limits), cable routing and pathway construction (aerial, underground, and indoor raceways), mechanical and fusion splicing techniques, connectorization standards (SC, LC, ST, and MPO/MTP), and optical distribution frame (ODF) patching. You will develop the specialized technical capabilities needed to operate high-precision fusion splicers and cleavers, perform optical power loss testing using Optical Power Meters (OPM) and Visual Fault Locators (VFL), analyze fiber trace anomalies and reflectance events with Optical Time-Domain Reflectometers (OTDR), adhere to strict laser safety and fiber-shard handling protocols, execute fiber end-face inspection and cleaning standards (IEC 61300-3-35), and document structured fiber networks to ensure carrier-grade performance, low latency, and high availability across enterprise, data center, and Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) networks.
