Material Science

This course provides foundational knowledge of the properties, behavior, and applications of materials used in marine engineering. Students learn about metals, alloys, polymers, and composites, including their mechanical properties, corrosion characteristics, heat treatment processes, and suitability for shipboard structures and machinery. Emphasis is placed on understanding material performance under operational conditions, selecting appropriate materials for specific marine applications, and ensuring safety, durability, and reliability in ship construction and maintenance.
