This course provides students with the knowledge and practical skills required to give medical care onboard a vessel in accordance with maritime medical standards. Training covers medical rules and recommendations, principles of patient examination, and cooperation with shore-based medical personnel, including consultation procedures, documentation, confidentiality, and medical evacuation.
Students learn asepsis and infection prevention, recognition and treatment of infectious and tropical diseases, basic pharmacology and medication administration, and methods of pain relief. The course addresses illnesses of major organ systems, including respiratory, circulatory, abdominal, neurological, and other critical conditions.
