Terrestrial Navigation 1 provides students with the foundational principles of marine navigation and chartwork. The course introduces the essential concepts needed to understand position, direction, distance, and movement at sea, forming the basis for all further navigational training.

Students learn the difference between absolute and relative navigation, along with a review of the Earth’s coordinate system ,latitude, longitude, and how positions are expressed on charts. The module covers calculations involving differences in latitude/longitude, departure, and the concepts of the rhumb line and great circle as navigational paths.
