This course provides the knowledge, understanding, and proficiency required for the safe maneuvering and control of ships under various operational conditions. Training includes the effects of wind, current, shallow water, interaction, and ship responsiveness, as well as the use of engines, rudders, thrusters, and anchors during maneuvers. Students learn techniques for berthing, unberthing, turning, stopping, and conducting maneuvers in confined waters. Emphasis is placed on situational awareness, bridge teamwork, adherence to safe operating procedures, and maintaining control of the vessel during normal and emergency situations.
