COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1. Understand the concept and scope of Short Sea Shipping (SSS) and its role within the European transport and logistics system.
2. Identify the main trade routes, ports, and types of cargo involved in short sea operations across Europe.
3. Examine the economic, environmental, and operational advantages of SSS compared to long-haul maritime and land transport.
4. Analyze the challenges and limitations facing the development and competitiveness of SSS in Europe.
5. Explore EU policies, funding programs, and regulatory frameworks supporting the promotion of SSS (e.g., TEN-T, Motorways of the Sea).
6. Evaluate the integration of SSS with other transport modes (intermodality) and its role in sustainable freight mobility.
7. Assess the current status and potential of short sea shipping in Greece, including opportunities for expansion and modernization.
