This course provides the comprehensive, specialized training required to certify shipboard officers for the critical role of Ship Security Officer (SSO), in strict compliance with the ISPS Code and STCW regulations. It trains designated officers how to take full responsibility for the onboard security framework, which includes maintaining and enforcing the Ship Security Plan (SSP) and coordinating seamlessly with Company Security Officers (CSOs) and Port Facility Security Officers (PFSOs).
The curriculum places a heavy emphasis on advanced competencies, such as conducting exhaustive vessel security risk assessments, supervising the testing and calibration of security equipment, and leading regular anti-piracy and security drills. Additionally, it trains officers in crowd management techniques, recognizing behavioral patterns of potential intruders, and handling sensitive security information. Ultimately, the course ensures the SSO can decisively manage access control, deal with stowaways or armed threats, and maintain an ironclad security posture under all Security Levels to protect the crew, cargo, and vessel.
