This course covers the essential technical processes required to test, purify, and condition marine fuels and lubricating oils before they ever reach a ship’s main engines and auxiliary machinery. Because raw fuel oil delivered to a vessel often contains heavy contaminants like water, catalytic fines (abrasive aluminum and silicon particles), and sludge, this training focuses on the operation and optimization of high-speed centrifugal purifiers and clarifiers to mechanically spin out these impurities. Additionally, the course teaches engineers how to manage fuel temperature and viscosity control systems to ensure smooth combustion, prevent catastrophic engine wear, and safely handle modern low-sulphur and alternative fuels.
