This course provides the knowledge and proficiency required to perform manual radar plotting in accordance with STCW watchkeeping and collision-avoidance standards. Training includes the use of radar displays for target detection, plotting relative motion, determining course and speed of other vessels, and assessing risk of collision. Students learn how to apply manual plotting techniques to make safe navigational decisions, verify ARPA information, and maintain situational awareness. Emphasis is placed on accuracy, timely plotting, and compliance with COLREGs to ensure safe navigation.
