This course provides the knowledge, understanding, and proficiency required to operate and interpret Automatic Radar Plotting Aids (ARPA) in accordance with STCW and COLREGs. Training includes target acquisition, tracking, vector analysis, CPA/TCPA assessment, and the use of ARPA-generated information for collision avoidance and navigational decision-making. Students learn system limitations, accuracy considerations, and methods for verifying ARPA data through manual checks. Emphasis is placed on maintaining situational awareness, applying ARPA information safely, and supporting effective watchkeeping practices.
