This course focuses on maximizing the effectiveness of shipboard safety committees and regular safety meetings to drive a proactive safety culture onboard. Participants will examine the regulatory requirements and organizational frameworks needed to structure engaging, productive meetings that involve representatives from all ranks and departments.
The training places a heavy emphasis on overcoming communication barriers, encouraging open dialogue, and transforming passive safety briefings into collaborative problem-solving sessions. Officers and safety representatives will learn practical techniques for tracking action items, analyzing near-miss trends collectively, and implementing peer-led safety initiatives, ensuring that the safety committee serves as a vital, trusted link between the crew’s daily operational realities and the vessel’s safety management system.
