This course focuses on the unique occupational hazards and risk management strategies involved when a vessel enters a shipyard for maintenance or drydocking, an environment where ship crew and third-party contractors must work side-by-side. It trains ship officers and shore-based superintendents how to safely coordinate high-risk overlapping operations, such as simultaneous hot work (welding), heavy lifting, scaffolding use, and confined space entries. The training places a massive emphasis on formal contractor management protocols, including executing safety inductions, verifying contractor certifications, establishing clear lines of communication, and issuing strictly controlled Permits to Work (PTW). Ultimately, the course ensures that ship personnel can effectively supervise external laborers and enforce strict safety standards to prevent fatal accidents, shipyard fires, and costly project delays.
