Fire in Port: Ship and Shore Cooperation

175,00

This course addresses the unique operational, tactical, and legal challenges that arise when a fire breaks out on a vessel while it is berthed or docked in port. Unlike an incident at sea, a fire in port requires instant, seamless coordination between the ship’s crew, terminal operators, and municipal shoreside fire departments. The training focuses on establishing unified command structures, managing language barriers, and aligning the ship’s fixed firefighting plans with the heavy-duty equipment of land-based responders. Crucially, it covers the dual risks of structural stability (as pouring tons of water into a ship can cause it to capsize at the pier) and environmental pollution from contaminated firefighting runoff. Ultimately, it ensures both ship and shore personnel can work as a single unit to contain the blaze, execute rapid port evacuations, and prevent a localized fire from turning into a massive harbor disaster.
