This course provides foundational knowledge of automation and automatic control systems used on board ships, in accordance with STCW engineering competencies. Students learn the basic principles of control theory, sensors, actuators, feedback loops, and system response. Training includes the operation and application of automatic control devices in marine machinery—such as governors, level and pressure controllers, and temperature regulation systems—as well as an introduction to modern automation technology. Emphasis is placed on understanding system behavior, maintaining safe and reliable operation, and supporting basic troubleshooting of automated shipboard systems.
