This course covers the highly regulated and critical process of bunkering—the transfer of fuel oil from a barge, shore terminal, or truck into a ship’s bunker tanks. Because bunkering carries a high risk of catastrophic oil spills and fires, the training focuses on the strict safety checklists and legal protocols required before, during, and after the transfer, as mandated by international MARPOL regulations. Personnel are trained on how to establish reliable ship-to-shore communications, continuously monitor tank capacities and pumping pressures to prevent overfills, and safely take official fuel quality samples. Ultimately, it ensures that the crew can execute fuel transfers efficiently while maintaining absolute safety and a zero-spill operation.
