This advanced course builds on foundational voyage-planning skills and provides the knowledge and proficiency required to plan and monitor complex routes in accordance with STCW navigation standards. Training includes optimizing ocean passages, integrating weather routing, applying advanced tide and current calculations, and adjusting routes for traffic separation schemes, restricted waters, and environmental protection zones. Students also learn dynamic route monitoring, deviation management, risk assessment, and the use of electronic navigation systems (ECDIS) for advanced planning and execution.
Emphasis is placed on maintaining safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance during challenging voyages and continuously adapting the passage plan to real-time operational conditions.
