This course provides specialized training on the technical operation, routine maintenance, and safe deployment of a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), which is the vital life-support equipment used by mariners to enter toxic, smoke-filled, or oxygen-deficient environments during onboard emergencies. It trains crew members on how to rapidly and correctly don the apparatus, perform critical pre-entry safety checks (such as positive/negative pressure facepiece tests and low-pressure alarm verifications), and manage their air consumption under intense physical stress. Additionally, the course covers the strict post-use procedures, including cleaning and disinfecting masks, safely recharging air cylinders to high pressures using the ship’s compressor, and conducting detailed monthly and annual safety inspections to ensure the equipment remains 100% reliable for fire teams and rescue operations.
