This course covers the highly technical and dangerous procedures required when a vessel loses propulsion or structural integrity and must be towed or salvaged to prevent total loss, environmental disaster, or a navigation hazard. It trains officers and crew on how to safely deploy an Emergency Towing Arrangement (ETA) under extreme weather conditions, calculate towing forces and hull stresses, and establish secure communications between the disabled ship and the tug or salvage vessel. Additionally, the training covers the legal and commercial aspects of maritime salvage—such as Lloyd’s Open Form (LOF) and “No Cure, No Pay” contracts—alongside practical damage control techniques like refloating grounded vessels, stabilizing compromised hulls, and managing oil spill risks during a crisis.
